Cartel Food Co // Episode 25
I don't know about you but sometimes I really don't feel like cooking dinner, after a big day or with a whiney 3 year old at my feet. But freezer food has a bit of a bad rep, it's usually nothing gourmet and we all know how bad freezer-burn can be.
Enter today's guests – Melissa and Jason from Cartel Food Co. With a love of Mexican food from a childhood living in Southern California, these high school sweethearts started Cartel Food Co 5 years ago, to bring their foodie passion to the frozen food aisle.
Since their beginnings personally hand-rolling 12000 burritos from their base in the Wairarapa, now these guys have seen 550% growth and have sold over half a million burritos. Not bad at all for a stagnant freezer category huh!
As fellow Wairarapa residents – represent! - I can't wait to share this story and find out a bit more about what they've learned as they've grown this business – and where they're planning to take it in the future as well.
Grab a snack and get comfy, we're in for a delicious chat...
Give Cartel Food Co a try – their burritos are in the freezer aisle at the supermarket. They are stocked in heaps nationwide and there is a handy list of stockists on their website so you can check for your local – head to cartelfood.com.
